For Employers
One reason you might happen across my site is that my CV might have come across your computer screen, it may even have come across your desk. If you're looking at his site with a view to some kind of hiring decision then I think I'll start by saying: "Hire me, I'm really good" if that's not enough and you want to know more, read on. If you want to get it touch then you can contact me using LinkedIn
I have been writing code for over 30 years, initially by writing simple BASIC programs on the Amstrad NC100 and Acorn Archimedes machines at my school. I discovered that I both enjoyed it, and had a talent for it. From there it led to me studying computing at university and then embarking on a career as a developer.
As I write this, my career as a developer has spanned 25 years, in that time I've worked in a variety of roles, in a variety of industries and with a variety of technologies (a full list is coming soon). The areas where I think I excel are:
- Analysis and Problem Solving - I have a real talent for understanding the nature of what code it's supposed to be doing, breaking it down and then piecing it back together.
- Learning on the job - Whether it's some proprietary internal system, some ancient technology or a brand new one, I'm a very quick study and can go from zero understanding to a reasonable level of mastery in very short order.
- Communication - When I was told this, it initially came us a surprise to me, but co-workers have complemented my ability to communicate and explain things to a degree that I realtly can't ignore. I have a talent for explaining with clarity and brevity. This means I've frequently been called upon to mentor new/junior team members. It also means that I've tended to have excellent relationships with business analysts and product owners, and been able to make sure what I deliver is as close as possible to what they actually want.
What I think I ultimately represent is a multitool developer. One who will quickly be able to understand and address your needs, will be effective in communicating those needs and is happy to pick up any problem or work with any technology you care to throw at him. If that sounds like someone you'd like to hire then please get in touch.
